Your photo

Nothing is uploaded. Your photo is checked in this page and never sent to a server. It still works with Wi-Fi switched off.

What this can and cannot check

It checks the numbers only. The Canadian rules also say the file must be saved straight from the original camera file (scans of printed photos are not accepted), the chin-to-crown height must be 45% to 50% of the photo, and the photo must not be altered. A web page cannot judge those, and a re-saved smaller copy may not count as the original camera file.

Rule source: the Government of Canada page on passport photos says a digital photo for an online renewal must be a .jpeg or .jpg, in a 3:2 portrait shape, at least 1,800 pixels high by 1,200 wide and no larger than 4,500 high by 3,000 wide, and between 200 KB and 5 MB. canada.ca passport photos. Questions

    Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The page reads the file in your browser to count its size and pixels. You can switch off Wi-Fi after it loads and it still works.

It says the photo is not a JPEG.

Online renewals need a .jpeg or .jpg. On an iPhone, export the photo as a JPEG (in Photos, share it and choose the most compatible format, or export it as a JPEG).

It says the shape is not 3:2.

The rule is a 3:2 portrait shape, for example 1200 x 1800. Crop your photo to that shape in your photo app before checking again.

My photo is over 5 MB.

Press "Make it under 5 MB" and download the smaller copy. It keeps the shape and as much detail as the limit allows, as long as it stays at least 1,200 x 1,800 pixels.
